Email via: http://scr.im/23vd Johan Wens is professor General Practice at the University of Antwerp and working as a general practitioner in Antwerp (Belgium) since 1986. He works, together with his wife, in a GP duo-practice in the northern region of Antwerp.Johan Wens started working as GP in 1986 in a small practice together with his wife, also a GP. Soon after graduating he joined the scientific association of Flemish GPs (now Domus Medica) where he started some regional prevention projects and the “Diabetes Project Flanders”, as a consequence of the Saint Vincent Declaration. This work resulted in a staff position at the University of Antwerp where he finished a PhD thesis, titled “Behind the borders of evidence… towards a better diabetes care”.His main interests are on “quality of health care delivery in primary health care”, “comprehensiveness” and “patient centeredness”.Besides some chapters in different books, he published different research papers in peer reviewed Journals on diabetes care, and more recently also on different topics of chronic and complex health care delivery. Johan Wens is member of the Belgian National Council for Quality Advancements in Health Care, the High Council for GPs and specialists, and different (inter-)national boards related to the topics of interest. He is examiner for the Inter University Centre for Undergraduate Training (ICHO) in General Practice.As board member of PCD Europe ivzw since 2001 he chaired the Scientific Committee of the conferences in Paris (2003) and Munich (2004). He finished the constitutions of the organisation which now is an international non-profit organisation in accordance with Belgian Laws. In 2005, Januray 1st he took over the position of treasurer and was installed as chairman for the upcoming 4 years during the General Assemblee meeting of 2009, February 7th. |

Dr Francesc Xavier Cos is a general practitioner in Barcelona (Spain) since 1997 currently working as a Director of Sant Martí Primary Health Centres (Catalonian Health Institute located in the city of Barcelona, managing over 100 professionals with 27 GPs).He has been member of the GEDAPS “Primary Care Diabetes Study Group” since 1997, (www.redgedaps.org) founded in 1993 by Prof. JF Cano (GP and Endocrinologist) , together with an enthusiastic group of GPs from The Catalonian Primary Care Society (www.camfic.org).He is a member of The Primary Care Diabetes Research Network ( Fundació Jordi Gol i Gurina) since 2001 and is also a member of Spanish Primary Care Diabetes research Network (redIAPP) endocrinology division since 2001 and elected as the european representative since 2004. |

Guusje is diabetes specialist nurse in Deventer for education and case management in Carinova Leiboom Groep, Community Care.She performs several tasks in working groups of Dutch Federation of Diabetes Caregivers (EADV ) Previous chair of EADV Expertise Group Primary Care. Prof. Dr. Guy E.H.M. Rutten has been working since 1982 as a general practitioner in a group practice in Beuningen. He defended his PhD thesis on diabetes care in 1989. Prof. Dr.Guy Rutten was head of the Department of Guidelines development of the Dutch College of GP’s from 1989-1991.In 1998 he was appointed as Professor of Diabetology in Primary Care at the Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care of the University Medical Center Utrecht. Up to now he has continued working as a GP in his practice two days per week. His research activities focus on diabetes and infections, diabetes and cardiovascular complications and diabetes primary care.He is (co-)author of more than 60 original articles in (inter)national peer reviewed journals, wrote more than 60 reviewing articles and chapters in textbooks and wrote or edited books on Guidelines, the Patient-Physician-Relationship, Diabetes in Primary Care and the Medical Process as well.He is chair of the Dutch General Practice Diabetes Advisory Group, which he founded, and member of the EASD Postgraduate Committee. He chairs the EASD Study Group on Primary Care Research in Diabetology, and is Editor-in-chief of Primary Care Diabetes. |

Imre Rurik graduated in 1979 at Semmelweis Medical University, in Budapest. Worked as urologist till 1989 when he turned to family practice and is working recently in a Budapest suburb, Pesterzsébet. He qualified as specialist in urology (1983), general practice (1993) and occupational medicine (1988).He got a Master degree in Helath Services management in 2002 and defended his PhD theses in 2003, on the topic of nutrition of elderly. He published some articles in indexed journals and much more in Hungarian medical journals. Since 1997 he is a senior lecturer at Department of Family Medicine, Semmelweis Univerity Budapest, member the Hungarian Board of Family Practicers |
Dr. Luc MartinezLuc Martinez, MD, is Associate Professor of General Medicine at the university Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris, France since 2007. He is Vice president of the French Society of General Medicine since 2000. He is appointed a member to the French National Authority for Health (Haute Autorité de Santé) in 2005 and joined the Economic Assessment and Public Health Committee in 2008. He is working since 1980 as a family physician in a private office at Bois d’Arcy, France. Dr Luc Martinez engaged in clinical research in 1991 after being post graduated in methodology of clinical research. He began his research record as investigator, principal investigator and coordinator of clinical trials. During this period, he implemented several projects on diabetes. He joined the Steering Committee of EXUBERA an international project conducted by PFIZER and aimed at developing inhaled insulin. In 2007, he joined the French Liraglutide Scientific board and the international GLP-1 Primary care advisory board, on behalf of Novo Nordisk. He published several papers on diabetes, and mainly a questionnaire aimed at predicting acceptance of insulin among patients with type 2 diabetes. In parallel, Luc Martinez developed specific interest on economic assessment, which led him to have a specific look at patients’ attitudes, quality of life and shared decision-making. He is currently running several projects on these topics. Besides this activity devoted to medications development and assessment, Doctor Luc Martinez serves the French National Board on Continuing Medical Education, the European General Practice Research Network (EGPRN), and the French National Authority for Health.
